Description

I recently won a MYO Citobor from a contest :iconnotecardpasta: held.  I wanted to do something drastically different from Doom so that this one was as unique as possible.  The only thing I knew for sure when I started was that I wanted this Citobor to be able to mine underwater. Much researching and brainstorming later, Hydroplasm was born.

Hydroplasm is a large citobor designed for mining in the frozen icy wastelands of Terrevanimus.  She is unique in that she doesn't actually have a laser.  Rather, she simply creates sparks by creating a DC current in a conducting rod where the laser would normally go.  She gets around this by utilizing the process of electrolysis.  By swallowing salt water, it is stored in a chamber in her body that runs DC current through the salt water she collects, causing a chemical reaction that provides her with three very important byproducts, sodium hydroxide, hydrogen gas, and chlorine gas.

The first is sodium hydroxide (NaOH, or lye), a substance that her body sifts out and stores.  When exposed to water, NaOH has a violent exothermal reaction, a.k.a. releases a TON of heat.  This is actually how her body regulates its temperature to combat the freezing wind and chilly waters she works in day and night.  By letting this reaction occur in a controlled manner inside her body, she is able to stay warm as long as she has occasional access to salt water.

The second is hydrogen gas (H2), which her body stores separately from the NaOH and chlorine gas.  This is her primary tool for actually mining.  She was built with retractable titanium claws in the bottom of her feet, and the two in front connect to the chamber that stores the H2.  Her body combines this with liquid water and then runs direct current through the mixture.  This causes the hydrogen gas to ignite, which vaporizes the water and eventually turns the whole mixture into a plasma she can use to cut into rocks.

The last product, the chlorine gas (Cl2) is her main defense.  Like H2, it is highly flammable, but is not nearly as efficient as the H2 because it does not reach sufficient temperatures to create the plasma.  It does however still create quite a powerful flame, more than sufficient to melt ice or offer protection from most creatures.  If the flame is not enough, she can release her combined gas stores at once, and when sparked, it creates a powerful explosion her titanium frame will survive, but most other creatures would not.  Thankfully, she has never had to resort to this, and only rarely has to use the flamethrower to scare threats away.  She is quite proud of the fact that she has yet to actually burn something to defend herself.  However, as her diet consists mainly of saltwater fish, her preferred method of hunting is small, controlled underwater explosions at close range to her target.  The exhaust ports inside her ears and tail burn off the excess H2 and Cl2 she doesn't use so there is no harmful buildup in her system.

Welp, I did it Pasta...Let me know if I should change anything!  She was a TON of fun to design and I hope you like her as much as I do!
